Summer 2024 Update

New job, new car, new website

I decided to do a reboot on my website and go for a more minimalist look and feel, with a change in the type of content I want to post on here. After all, I don’t need any flashy tools to just post my thoughts and updates, right?

So hopefully this will make it easier to maintain and post updates, since my previous websites were a duct taped mess of plugins and tools that would break or nag me to update every single time I logged on. Hopefully.

Onto the updates:
New job! – I now work for GE. Yes, the Thomas Edison-founded General Electric! Well, technically GE has been split up into three separate companies – GE Aerospace, GE Healthcare, and GE Vernova. I worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory for about a year and what a wild, crazy (and classified, shh!) ride that was. I was exposed to a whole different world of government work and I gained a ton of valuable nuclear experience in my line of work which allowed me to make the move to GE. GE is currently working on bringing their next generation of nuclear reactors online and I am part of the engineering team making it happen. Lots of really cool things are in the works and I’m eagerly waiting for the project I am working on to come to fruition. I am very excited and proud of my career path that has allowed me to be part of so many huge and interesting projects.

New car! – I used to own a 2015 Corvette that I loved very dearly, but sadly I had to get rid of it for a four wheel drive SUV to weather the snowy winters of northern New Mexico. Driving the Corvette unfortunately would have been a liability in that weather, but now that snow and ice is no longer something I need to worry about, I had to go back to a sports car and that car is a 2022 Mustang GT with the 5.0 liter, 450 horsepower V8! Since owning the Corvette, it’s hard to go with a car lacking the power and growl that a V8 engine provides. I have already done some exterior cosmetic modifications and have some more that I plan to do in the fall.

New website! – I really like the idea of the old school blogs, like LiveJournal or even the days of posting bulletins on MySpace, where you can share tidbits about interesting things you find on the internet or things that happen in your life. I really want to do that! I am also currently going through a social media detox, namely Instagram and Facebook.

Instagram and Facebook have become insufferable with all of the ads and posts from people that I don’t know or frankly don’t care about. Also, with the 2024 US elections underway, the ads and exposure to unwanted political “discourse” will reach a point where I know it will start affecting my mental health. So in order to avoid that and be more present in my day to day, I temporarily disabled my Instagram and Facebook profiles until at least after the 2024 election cycle.

In the meantime and hopefully going forward, I’ll be using this website as my personal blog and moving away from using it as an online resume/CV. I have included a link to my LinkedIn profile for the people interested in my professional background as well as contact information. This blog is just for me!

So more updates on the way, more thoughts and articles, and maybe even some think pieces. I am excited for the different direction I am taking, both online and IRL.
